Europe 2014 - The Pink Granite Coast

To talk the driving load off, we were staying close to home on Monday.  But all around us are great places...especially for the Sherpa enabled photographer!  So we were off to the Pink Granite Coast.  I won't go into the geology of Brittany but it is the long eroded remnant of a mountain range dating to Cretaceous times and the creation of the current Atlantic.  The pink granite of this section that is only 40 or so kilometers from where we are staying is very unusual rock only found here, somewhere in else in Europe and in China.  The nature of the way granite crystals fracture when released from pressure when they come to surface plus the fact that certain of their minerals dissolve easier leads to the creation of unusual shapes by the erosion of water and wind.

But first a plug for our local artichoke industry
I took this picture from our backyard while we were making breakfast
If you blow it up you can probably see the green orbs being sent to the trailer
