Excitment

This week I have appointments for:
  1.  Getting my hair cut on Tuesday
  2. Acupuncture on Wednesday
If I could have one in-person business meeting even if we are sitting outside (restaurants have opened), the week would be complete. (I am working on that one)

Fractional Tasking

So much has been written over the last decade or so about multi-tasking. One should do it. One should not do it. Life is so complicated, how can you not do it. Doing it makes you do a lousy job of everything....blah, blah, blah.

As the last month has been incredibly busy, I find myself reflecting on this issue. And my sad but true realization is that for I, the transitioned person over 70, multitasking isn't really an option. In fact, even regular one-off tasking is a bit of an issue.

I think at this stage of life, you are much more doing fractional tasking.

What is fractional tasking, you ask?

Fractional tasking means that even when you put your full effort and attention into something, you may, at best, be doing about 75 to 80 percent of what you need to be doing. And that's when things are going well. If you are not on your game, you may be doing under 50%.

But with the wisdom and rationalization that comes with age, I have pretty much decided that "Hey. That's okay." Just so long as my fractional attainment is better than my peers fractional attainment.

Numbers

These were published in Monday's paper

Population of New Mexico - 2.097 million
Number of Covid 19 Tests - 133,253
Number Who Tested Positive - 5,938
Number of Covid 19 Deaths - 265

% of our population tested - 6.35%
% of those tested that are positive - 4.46%
% of those tested that died - 0.2%
% of our population that tested positive - 0.28%
% of our population that has died - 0.001%

Let's assume that if we had done nothing that the fatalities from Covid-19 would have been 100 times worse. Fatalities would be 26,500. Annual automobile fatalities in New Mexico in 2018 were 27,288.

Population of the US - 328.2 million
Number of Covid 19 Tests - 11.5 Million
Deaths from Covid 19 in the US - 90,694
US Unemployed - 30.3 million

% of US population that has died - 0.03%
% of US currently unemployed - 9.2%

R&R Report + Other

Can I acknowledge publicly to Wife that I really the hell needed this and am so glad we took the weekend off. And thanks to 2B and #2 for making it happen, working with Wife to find the rental and doing all the driving.

I was bloody exhausted. We were in a lovely house in a lovely setting and had brought all the food and alcohol we needed to just chill. And chill I did, taking two or three naps a day and for the most part doing nothing. The only time I took out my computer was to work on some pictures. I stayed off my phone for texting the whole time with just a couple of cases when things snuck through.

A couple of quick looks at our domicile

Eating and Drinking are important
Our line up for the day and a half
2B after years of saying he didn't like fish suddenly has become a fan of whole fish, FRESH, cooked simply. We have a good resource in Albuquerque at one of our Asian Markets. He went and purchased two big ole Branzino which I cooked on the gas grill.
They were awesome
2B insisted that we get out of the house. He and Wife were up for going to this one lake but it was closed. So we went to another only to find it had been drained for some dam repairs.
Nonetheless, for a short period of time, I got into photo mode. It made me realize how much I miss the travel that Wife and I do that is photography oriented.

I whipped up some Thai Red Curry the other day
The key is to freeze all the roots and tough stalks. Then you grate them. The freezing breaks down the cell structure making it much easier to turn it all into a paste

A couple of weekends ago I broke out the smoker for the first time this year.
As we had the whole #2 clan, I went all in
Chicken, fish, ribs, brisket, pork shoulder, potatoes
Everything turned out great.

R & R

For folks in the Military, the Diplomatic Corps and others that is the acronym for Rest and Recuperation, usually a period of time when you leave your assigned post and go somewhere to do exactly what the words say before going back to post.

We are doing exactly that this weekend. Between the Theodora Ghana project work, the JumpStart project work and my paying clients, I have been going at it harder than any time since my official transition from fulltime work in 2014.

#2 and 2B suggested to Wife and I that we do an adults-only weekend. So we rented a house near Durango, Colorado and will spend a couple of nights there. I have promised I will disconnect from work.

I realized that I haven't made a blog post in two weeks so hopefully, I will do a catch up on what's been going on.
