Sicily 2021 #4 - Foodie Post One

If the de-I are traveling again, we are eating again! And one of our all time favorite places to eat has been Italy. However, I must say that at this early juncture in our trip the food has been kind of hit or miss. Some good dishes, but some not so great dishes. I wonder if it is because we are in a heavily tourist part of the island. We have a number of weeks left to go, so we'll see how it all unfolds.

Pizza Marriage Style

So far the two meals we had in Catania have been our overall best. After our day out on Friday after a nap we were hungry so we went out again. Wife was in the mood for pizza and with all the restaurants right close by our rental we found one right away. Pizza is always a single size that is pretty big in Italy. Wife chose one with tomato sauce, ham, mushrooms while I got a four cheese pizza. We were discussing sharing while our waiter took the order. He said, "You want to share? We will give it to you 'Marriage Style'. We will cut them in half and put half on each plate." Sweet! Both were excellent. We took the leftovers and had them for breakfast in the morning.

On Sunday, after meeting up with #3's on Saturday, we went out for a big Sunday lunch. Decided to go back to where Wife and I had a quick lunch on Saturday. We had a nice time. We had the same waiter as we had on Saturday and that helped make for a good experience. Ordered way too much food.

An Arancini Appetizer

Arancini are rice balls filled with a meat ragu, covered in bread crumbs and deep fried. They are typically street food, so I was surprised to see them on a restaurant menu. They tasted good butg were huge for a first course.

Another first course was a selection of vegetable options with bruscetta, a potato egg dish, a tower of eggplant, and a stuffed mushroom

And there was a shrimp cocktail...except like none I've seen before...with the shrimp covered in a mayonnaise sauce.

There were two fish courses ordered - both of which were just okay.

A swordfish roll around a filling

And a grilled sea bass filet

Then we moved on to some highlights

There was this Pizza Diavlo. It had spicy sausage, decorative hot chile threads, mozzarella and tomato sauce. Was greatly enjoyed.

Then there was this delicious veal steak with a porcini mushroom sauce

And before we leave, yet another issue with our rental house

The women pondering the internet or lack thereof which lasted for most of a day.

I appreciate how theatrically the women pose while searching for internet.

Tourist Italian food is the worst Italian food.

I believe we were trying to see if you could reach the internet from a specific distance to the router
