Today was another of those transition days of driving and getting settled at a new place. We're in a country setting, renting a house about 20 kilometers outside of Padua, a major Renaissance town that was in the orbit of Venice. We had plenty of time to get there. This is actually a place that was chosen by Daughter #2 as part of their month long trip to Central Europe. They were scheduled to arrive early in the morning and be at the rental by the time we arrived.
Instead we got an email from them in the morning saying their plane had been delayed leaving Hong Kong causing them to miss their connection resulting in them now arriving approximately 12 hours later! Clearly they didn't make sacrifices to the Magical Unicorn Pony God of Travel!
So we made sure we got to the rental and secured the key and payment details. Since they are so late, we also went out and got a bunch of groceries. Not the easiest thing to do in Italy as most places are closed on Sunday afternoon. We were able to find a EuroSpar (a big chain in Europe) that was open. Shopping for groceries always takes twice as long because you don't know what exactly things are and you don't know the store. It was 4:30 in the afternoon by the time we got back from the stores. We made some sandwiches for ourselves as we hadn't eaten since breakfast. Then I cooked up a pot of soup as they are going to be basket cases when they get here. Not to mention the fun they are going to have going through the tiny unlit country dirt road to this place in the dark!
