Europe Fall 2024 - Return To Valencia And The Death March Revenge

Back in the day, de-I and his well respected(...notorious?) firm, de-I Sandia Outfitters, had (what I thought) was a rather unfair reputation for treating its clients in a cavalier (sadistic?) fashion such as our renowned 'Bataan Death March' and 'Trail of Tears' tours of Paris for my son-in-law 1A and daughter #1. Or our dragging our 8 month pregnant #2 (note end of post) to Cambodia and Singapore.

But as those with an Eastern Philosophical orientation know, karma has it's way of coming back at you. So it was with more than poetic justice that Wife and I were subject to the Valencian Reconquista Tour introduced to us by our own Granddaughter 2.2.

The best way to understand how this tour worked is via a sample dialog.

"So we need to get back to the apartment." (This after being on our feet for 3 hours going from our apartment to the Old City and touring around)

"Well Google Maps says it's 20 minutes if we take public transportation or 35 minutes if we walk. Walking seems to make sense."

One hour later

"Are we getting close?"

"According to Google Maps, it's 35 minutes away."

"Isn't that what Google said when we started an hour ago?"

"I don't think so. I don't really remember."

Two more hours later after finally getting to the apartment and collapsing

"Let's go to your place 2.2."

"Okay. I think the best way for us to go is to walk. It's only 20 minutes"

Theme from Jaws

"Um...Okay."

It was only at the end of the entire day when Wife and I needed to get back to our apartment that 2.2 told us "You should use an Uber. It's easy and inexpensive."

😡

In the end we saw a great deal of the inner city, way more than we would have otherwise, got a lot of pictures, and spent a good amount of quality time with 2.2. We saw her student apartment which was nice, met one of her roommates, had time for me to teach her how to make classic Jewish Grandma Chicken Fricassee (I told her she was now officially inducted into Jewish Grandma Cooking Sisterhood), AND went out for a great paella meal

Next time we visit, we will pay better attention to our housing relative to the rapid transit locations, and understand we can use Uber!

since I got the first hand reporting (twice even, for completeness sake), I think there's not much left for me to comment on this story :)

You trained the younger generation to show no mercy, and now all your chickens are coming home to roost...
