We have a mission here at the de-I Sandia Outfitters Undoing of the Reconquista Tour. That is to overcome each of the castles in our local area that were gradually conquered during the Middle Ages. The area we have set up camp around Alicante is a hotbed for these sites as you have seen from our prior posts.
Today we are moving inland. There is a route that goes from the Central Castile area (Madrid) to the coast around the cities of Alicante, Elche, and Murcia that has been a major thorough fare for communication, trade, and commerce from the earliest times of civilization. Along these routes numerous locations were identified as being in a position to control the flow of that traffic. These positions became the sites of fortified sites usually with histories preceding the Roman conquest of Hispania all through the Visigoth, Moor, Christian Reconquista, Early Modern War, and even to the Spanish Civil War.
Today's Target - Atalaya Castle in Villena
A Big Castle
Storming Castles is so much easier when the defenders let you know where the entrance is.
The defenders use a DIY system so locals can help with the defense.
And when you are done invading, slaughtering the inhabitants, raping and pillaging, you are expected respectively to shut the door so as to not make it easier for the next invader.
Well enough about the defenders. Let's get on to Wife and my assault
Up the slopes to the entrance!
In between the outer walls and the inner castle
Wife catches her breath after capturing one of the towers
We take a quick look around the city we will have under our control after capturing the castle observing the churches that clearly are older than Baroque and the tapestry of the tile roofs.
Some of the weapons used against us
Now it is time to take down the last resistance in the Keep itself
We break into the Keep's central court yard
We survey the the Keep and gird our loins to attack the last tower
Captain Wife in her armor but not her helmet, (who has been attached by Eldership HQ to the Sandia Outfitters expedition for this mission) signals it is time to begin the final assault.
Damn!...This is Steep! (we lowly foot soldiers think following our intrepid Captain
We see reminders of those who fought against the Reconquista
The tower is filled with graffiti from those who were imprisoned here over the centuries
We completely clean out the tower and reach its top platform and again look out over the city below
Another Castle Taken by Elder Arms. The Re-Reconquista continues
The good Captain rewards her command buying them a warming menu del dia in town.
SIGNS OF THE WORLD
There were also warning signs for WINTER, SPRING, and SUMMER

When the de-I Sandia Outfitters Eldership arrives, the wise conquistadores flee... Unless they have delicious menus del dia to sell you.
I'm disappointed there was no visiting of gift shops by the invaders. Surely plunderers need decorative mugs
