Eurasia Mega Trip 2026 - Days Fifty Eight And Nine - Another Overnight Trip (Cartagena) And More Relatives

We have been very busy the last few days.

We enjoyed our photo excursion to Murcia so much we decided to do another one to the nearby city of Cartagena. Cartagena has a massive historical presence going back to early Phoenician settlement followed by the Greeks. Then Carthage made it a major port and center of the silver export trade. Roman conquest followed and the usual trajectory through Moorish, Christian and then all the modern historical era. It has a great natural port. It was and still is a major base for the Spanish navy. It is known for its Roman era ruins, unique underwater archeological museum, and scenic castle.

With all this, I was excited that it would be be a great place for photo shooting. As it turned out, the nature of the city layout made it a much more challenging environment. We also got to the town earlier in the day when the light was not at its best. We combined this with a meal that didn't sit well followed by harbor cruise on a boat that was moving all over the place. This left your correspondents not feeling so great. But a long rest on a bench had us regaining our land legs. By this time the sun was starting to go lower in the sky. Exploring the town in more depth, we found plenty of stuff to take pictures of.

We still haven't gone through them all. Because, the very next day we were picking up super niece RMG who was coming in from Madrid. On our drive back from Cartagena, Our rental car's caution lights went on showing low tire pressure. As luck would have it we were able to get off the highway, find a service station, and check the air pressure fairly soon. Good thing too. The pressure in all four tires was really low. And cudos to the Spanish service station whose air pressure reading and air dispensing system were super easy to use.

We met up with RMG at the Alicante railroad station, grabbed some lunch, and did our usual shopping at the mega Carrefour. After getting to the apartment and resting, we went out in the evening for a drink and did a proper long time sitting around and talking. Wife and RMG had a lot to go over related to the recent passing of RMG's Father and Wife's Brother. We ended up eating a typical Spanish hour dinner, but very late for Wife and I.

We were mostly mellowing out today. Still talking a lot. We went out for another long leisurely lunch. I have much in the way of foodie updates but that will await a future post. Same with the Cartagenia photos.
