Elche is renowned for having one of the largest, most extensive, and diverse palm groves in the world and is the largest in Europe. It is considered a Unesco World Heritage Site. Palm groves are found throughout the Islamic desert world and are part of systems for enhancing agriculture and water conservation in these difficult environments. For more information go here and here. We only went to one of the vast number of areas available. For Wife and I, it was a singular photographic opportunity.
