Cophenhangen - Getting Our Bearings

We are in a chill mood, really loving getting a chance to be back with #3 and family. We slept late. The kids are in school though we got to see them off before they left. The #3's live in a inner suburb of Copenhagen called Ordrup. #3 after living smack dab in the middle of Amsterdam for 16 years has been in a state of shock that they are now in a suburb. "Like there are all these houses and all the people have cars!"

Anyway today was a light day of walking in the center part of town (a whole five blocks). Then we drove a short way to the coast had lunch and walked along the waterfront.

#3 in back of her abode (well not the whole building, the apartment on the 3rd floor)

On the waterfront

There is an abandoned earthwork fort. Danish military history during the modern era has been decidedly lacking in great successes. This was one of a number of forts built to protect the harbor AFTER a defeat to Germany in 1864. Only 50 years later, it was abandoned because the technology of artillery had made it obsolete.

Wife enacts the assaulting of the fort!

The commanding view of the harbor

On a clear day you can see Malmo, Sweden and its highest building

In the 19th century, the military manned the fortress cannons and were housed nearby

As Wife and I travel the world, we are continually amazed at the ideas we find that are brilliant. Why didn't we think of this?

Seriously, a kayak renting machine. What a great idea! I bet people are put into bliss knowing they can don't have to schlep their own kayak to the water but just get one from the Kayakomat.

A Danish Royal Castle...much more on this later

Brilliant! We definitely need more vending machines in the US and the kayak-omat is a great place to start.
