Laboring On Labor Day

That in fact is NOT a pejorative. That is a statement that I had an incredibly productive day today!

Among today's accomplishments:
  • Hiked
  • Took pictures while hiking which I'd been meaning to do for weeks
  • Smoked 12 pounds of pork shoulder
  • Took a great nap after hiking!
  • Harvested the first meaningful batch of Green Chile and Tomatoes from Garden
  • Finished four business tasks involving writing things
  • Roasted Chiles above
  • Made a Roasted Tomato, Onion, Garlic, Green Chile Salsa and froze the extra
  • Processed the pork shoulder into pulled pork (which came out mighty good I might add) and put into 6/7 ounce bags to provide for the next year
And I am happy to say that doing all that did not involve over taxing myself or getting too tired. So, yes, I'm pretty pleased.

Pictures from on the Trail

The Garden's Bounty
(Actually that is putting a pretty hefty spin on this given how pathetic the garden has been this year with the late planting, exceedingly hot weather, and massive hail storm)
A favorite way of enjoying those tomatoes
One slice bread, plenty of mayo, one slice ham, some big ole slices of just harvested tomatoes, a couple of big pieces of cheese (in this case Affinois), then under the broiler.
YUM!

funny how the desert is still so brown even after all the monsoon. Those tomatoes look very dark, perhaps you got quality instead of quantity this year

Brown! It's like freaking crazy green by our standards (LOL). And there are freaking flowers too!

It is the variety of tomato...some kind of heirloom purple tomato

You really have found a great mix of work and play that suits your lifestyle. Could you overnight me one of those sandwiches? They look great.
