Europe Fall 2024 - 20 Best Things To Do In Pescara

Pescara is the largest city of Abruzzo. Here are the best things one can do there.

1. Use it as a place to leave for Ancona
2. Use it as a place to leave forVasto
3. Use it as a place to leave for Ortona
4. Use it as a place to leave for Roma
5. Use it as a place to leave for Lecce
6. Etc.
   

I can go on until we get to 20. 

 For I will tell you, without doubt, (at least in my opinion, and I'm sure there are Pescara adherents who will vociferously deny this) this was one of the least interesting places we've ever visited. Usually Wife and I, even when we go to some place that is not particularly exciting, can get into photographic mode and find things interesting to shoot. Not so yesterday in Pescara. Now I will admit that I may not have done as much homework as I should have. I did as much as I usually do. But I missed going to Wikipedia which pointed out at least two buildings that we'd missed. However, I will stick with my assessment that while this is a modern, and prosperous city, it is lacking in a lot of character as far as its cityscape is concerned. 

The Government Building Complex, built during the Fascist era, is considered to be one of the highlights (if you are into Fascist era style).

I tried to get into some of the sculpture detail but was less than excited.

Looking down from a bridge, a new one for me...Fishing Tourism. "Long live going to the sea and fishing" I think the second line says.

As we started wandering around, everything was closed up tight for Sunday. The buildings were your basic rectangles with little in the way of architectural highlights. So we made our way to what was hyped as the 'the main piazza' of town. The place to go. 

There was certainly more activity there but it was...

We found something to eat and headed for the waterfront. Pescara has miles of beaches. It is known for this sculpture that is supposed to represent a boat.

The water around it was pretty dirty.

The waterfront was the same unhappy frontage we've seen throughout this region. Just on steroids.

Seriously, what represents natural beauty more than a sea of beach umbrellas.

This church is in here because at least it was not a rectangle and it marked where we parked our car.

 

 Let's just say we've taken Pescara off our list.
