Malaysia 2022/23 - #5 - Can You Say 'Major Pivot'?

I had alluded in prior posts that the Airbnb rent-a-mansion was not working out exactly as we had hoped. Well things have not been improving. There has been a problem with the water pump meaning having to reset it multiple times in a day. It is not in a convenient location. There is the swimming pool that is designed in a way that is nearly impossible for older folk to use safely (the pool was one of the big reasons we chose this house). There is the 'quiet neighborhood' that has barking dogs, traffic noise, and a mosque that goes way beyond the 'call to prayer' and broadcasts via loud speakers entire services nightly for around 3 hours. Wife has posted much more eloquently on her blog the issues we've faced. Overnight we independently came to the same conclusion. We needed to terminate this situation and move on to something different.

Fortunately for us, Airbnb has a dispute resolution system that favors circumstances such as we have encountered. Equally fortunate, our host recognized the issues. While not agreeing 100% with our assessment, he has been gracious in saying he wants his guests happy and will refund the amount unused.

We spent the day finding alternative accommodations. Since we were now committed to moving, why limit ourselves to staying in Melaka? So we've booked a new, modern high rise apartment in the center of Melaka for our second week. (Question...will it have hot water in the sinks or just the showers? Hard to tell from the listing. Will let you know). Then we will move on to the city of Georgetown on the island of Penang in northern Malaysia for our last two weeks. We also booked a flight from Melaka to Penang, another from Penang to Kuala Lumpur at the end of our trip. Finally I booked an airport hotel in KL for the night before we leave for home.

It was a busy day but both Wife and I are feeling quite relieved that we will have better circumstances for the rest of our trip. Never say Wife and I aren't flexible.

a very big pivot! I thought Malaysia was supposed to be a more staid visit but now it's more up to your usual speed. Make sure you see every church, temple and mosque you can.

I'm glad you were able to find a resolution, rather than just having to put up with it all the time.
