Sicily 2021 #19 - The Harsh Light of Cefalú

We have really struck gold with our apartment in Cefalú. It is the former apartment of the owners' mother and you can really tell it is a place that was designed to be lived in, not to be rented out. So many rental properties today are so sparse with amenities and creature comforts as to be very unpleasant to stay in. This is not and we are grateful.

One of our expressed goals for staying in an in-town apartment is to get a feel for whether that would be an attractive environment for a longer out-of-country stay. I don't think this town will give us enough information to make that judgement. So far the apartment itself is great and very comfortable. There are plenty of shopping options in walking distance. Unfortunately, we are still doing a ton of touring so really aren't acting as if we are living here. And my feeling is if we want an 'in-town' experience, it needs to be a larger place with more public transportation so we feel there are things to do outside the immediate neighborhood. Just some initial thoughts.

Cefalú, like just about everywhere here, has roots going back to Greek and older times. But it is dominated by its Norman heritage and so is Medieval in character like Erice. Our apartment is very close to the old city so we took a foray in. Unfortunately it was a very harsh day for lighting leading to some weird pictures. Both Wife and I deleted over half the photos we took.

View from one of our balconies at dusk of the Old City

We are a beach city

We are a fortress city

We have a Duomo (cathedral)

We have a lighthouse

We have the beautiful Mediterranean

We have beautiful photographers

We are ancient

We are an old city of narrow streets

We are a city of laundry

We have narrow streets AND laundry

We are a city of narrow streets, laundry AND Duomo!

Our meals continue to be erratic with some good things and some frustrating things.
BUT
I had some genuine, artisanal granita!

And I swear, there is no such thing as a 'light' pour of wine here

Special Bonus Quiz...and it Doesn't Have to Do with Column Capitals.

There is something very special about this laundry picture. Tell me what it is and you get to share a top bottle from my wine cellar with me.

No undies visible? No patterns? In any case, your profferred prizes are getting more more enticing!

In other news, take advantage of the large pours while you can! https://www.theguardian.com/food/2021/nov/05/warning-over-extremely-low-wine-production-in-europe-due-to-bad-weather

Maybe it's cheating if we have seen your laundry very recently...

There are no rules Rob except the ones I make up as I go! I call that 'preparation'.
