I haven't done a whole lot of advanced planning for this trip. With all the Covid associated uncertainty, I figured we'd figure it out if and when we got there. Fortunately, 3A and Wife did a lot more research and had a number of things they wanted see. On Wednesday, the weather promised to be nice. A good photography day! So the choice was two picturesque fishing villages about 45 minutes to the south of us.
The two villages could not have been more different. Portopalo di Capo is a real working fishing village. Not one shop selling trinkets to be found. For Wife and I, it was the kind of place that promised lots of interesting photographic opportunities. However, it was basically totally boring for the grandchildren so we left it after only a short time period and went to Marzamemi which very definitively was very touristy. Nonetheless, it was really nice to just be walking around and doing our travel thing.
Le Immagini
Yes, we are here
And I was channeling the photo artistic vibe to the max
On to Marzamemi
Where first thing on the agenda is FOOD! And not just any food, but really great, fresh fish. Hats of to 3A who researched this!
The waiter who served us made a point of telling us they served really fresh fish. When I ordered my 'fish of the day' they brought out a platter of raw whole fish. I picked out a one-pound blue fish (only found out it was blue fish after the fact) which was grilled to order.
Family happily awaiting gastronomic ecstasy
Wife had been waiting for fresh sea bass and found it here.
3A had a seafood risotto
My blue fish in all its glory
Happy - Also showing our fries with mayo (happiness for the Dutch living contingent) and another caponata.
This was followed by what was claimed to be the best gelato in the world
If you can't get to Italy, try Miami
I had a super double dark chocolate. Not sure if it was the best in the world, but it was damn good.
Then back on the photography trail
All in all a pretty darn good day!
