Here are the pictures of our trip to Viñales where we learned all about cigar production and got our first taste into life in Cuba outside of the the Havana tourist bubble
On the road in Cuba
Getting out of Havana and you immediately are struck that this is a very different way of life than you find in so many other places we have visited
You are struck by the lack of vehicles on the road and the frequency that animal power is used for both transportation and agriculture (in fact for the cigar industry this is mandated), antique vehicles as standard and by the fact that so many people use hitching rides as a major form of transportation
We are going to a land of tobacco and its presence is everywhere
In the fields
And in the building used for its processing (drying and fermenting)
This is also an area of great physical beauty
We got a lesson in cigar making and tasted yet again a fine cigar
Sorry, just not my thing
Seeds of the tobacco plant
Reputed to be the smallest in the known plant kingdom
Our cigar teaching maestro
Then we went into the town of Viñales
Next we headed off to a noted site that was touted as a 'Mural of Pre-History'
It was done by a muralist who was from the Mexican school
It is done on the side of a hill
It was...well... a bit weird if you ask me
We finished our day driving into the countryside near the mural, off the tourist path

The natural beauty is striking. The shots of traffic remind me a lot of India but less crowded.
