Sampling A Typical Sunday In Paris

As promised we were able to get into our rental and unpacked on Sunday morning. I has said this year that I really wanted to go to a different part of the city than the one I was so familiar with on the Left Bank. But because of a connection on getting the apartment, we ended right back in the 5th Arrondisement, or the Latin Quarter where I first went as a student and have been back to many times since. I have to admit there is a certain lovely quality associated with reuniting with those familiar things are that you love.

One of them is a big Sunday Market on a street called Rue Mouffetard. It's been going on for decades. We needed to get some food stuffs and was going to close in an hour or so so we hustled on out. We bought cheese, fruit, pate, and bread. We were looking for a place to have lunch, I in particular having a real hankering for poulet roti avec frites - roast chicken and fries. None of the restaurants had it. BUT, there was a butcher shop with chickens in a rotisserie. They also had potatoes roasting in a pan underneath catching all the drippings. We decided to get those and bring them back to the apartment. What a good choice. We also saw dancing going on. I am having trouble getting video off my phone onto my computer so I'm afraid I'm only able to put my videos on Facebook.

After lunch we went to the Jardin du Luxembourg, one of the classic gardens and Sunday hangout places in the city. We were there when the light was at its best and we were far from the only photographic focused folks there.

It's good to be back in Paris.

The view from our apartment over looking the Rue St. Jacques

Into the Jardin du Luxembourg
It was cold but the city is out in force and the colors are spectacular

 Still flowers everywhere

What is more French than flowers and lovers
There are photographers too intent on their art

Sailing of model boats like the market has been going on for decades and decades for parents and children

An intent Helmswoman doing her job

The pigeons seemed unusually militaristic
Because the Pigeon Sovereign reminds them that Man lives to support Pigeon
And there is the timeless games of petantique
One must survey the shot
He visualizes the throw
The windup
The throw
The results taken in and the game progresses
