After all the high adventure of abandoning the mountain retreat and hightailing it to the beachfront town of Vago (think Monty Python and the Holy Grail...RUN AWAY!), we were ready to be chill. And just a block from our apartment is a beach with a beautiful elevated walk. As it was Mother's Day, we were going to go out for lunch, but being Sunday and not having reservations, I wasn't sure we'd get into a good place. Fortunately, the town as a small fish market and produce market. We decided I would cook. I went to the market and bought what I thought to be red snapper filet BUT which turned out to be skinned eel! Some of you may remember the far back pre-blog story of traveling in France with high schooler #3 where she insisted she order for us and thought she ordered Wife trout but got her eel instead. Any who, we know Wife doesn't like eel so it was back to the market where I found sole, an acceptable fish.
Then we went out in the evening to do a sunset photo shoot. We talk about this a lot but never actually do it because we are always so tired from our normal running around touring. But this was a success and it was magnified because in the opposite direction from where we enter the beach walkway, is unspoiled, undeveloped beach land.
Entering into Vago Beach (not its real name but what we call it) you are told by the GPS to turn right at the fork
Strolling down the beach front
And we come to the small square where they are grilling meat and selling fish
An ultralight buzzes the beach
To the south, the unspoiled portion of the beach. We went out in the evening to catch the evening sunlight ant the sunset.
At this time of day, the beach is very quiet and the light most interesting.
The shadows deepen
The light plays of the sand, the fences, the plants
Until we await sundown

I agree, a mother deserves a meal she doesn't hate on Mother's Day.
