Eldership 2025 Spain - On Stuff In Campello And Guest Bloggers

Our daily life in El Campello continues.

We continue to watch the water

for Sailboats

Sea Kayaks

The Ancient Enemy

 The migration of Espouses Fotograficus

Full Moons

We watch Windfoilers

And then we are blessed with the arrival of our Niece and Fellow Blogger RMG from Madrid. We had torrential rain the day before she arrived. Many roads were closed due to flooding. Fortunately it let up quite a bit by the time we went to pick her up at the Alicante train station. Google Maps, as it is wont to do, routed us differently than in the past. But we have been here enough that we have feel for the city layout. I do miss the turn to get into the parking garage. But it is not that hard to go around a few blocks and come back from another direction.

We get to the entrance to the parking lot and it is blocked. What the &^$%^! An arrow directs us to another supposed entrance. It's blocked too. @^%$#! Then we notice where the parking lot was is nothing but a huge construction site. Now I'm just circling trying to think what to do next. I notice a number of cars parked and one open space. It is just around the corner from the station. I park here, call RMG, then get out the car and go to find her. We link up in no time at all.

Then it is off to do our big shopping at the mega Carrefour in Sant Joan. RMG notes they have British products for the expat community here that one can't find in Madrid. We're also stocking up on foods for the four days we'll have her.

 We take a long walk

 Gastronomy

We decided we'd do one splurge meal. I wanted to try the local rice dish that is like paella, but not exactly the same. We'd checked the menu online and seen they had a number of vegetarian options.

Waiting for our meal to begin

Wife and I had a pate and garlic shrimp as appetizers

RMG had a quiche made with Roquefort which she was extremely pleased with

Then came our main, the Lobster Rice

Sadly this was a disappointment. I think it was overcooked, almost burnt.

But RMG had another winner, with Turkish savory pastries. She says this was one of the best vegetarian menus she's had in Spain

On to the desserts which were also excellent. There was an apple almond cake, and a molten chocolate brownie. All were completely consumed.

We had a bottle of local rose, coffee, and the comped us grappa at the end.

The whole bill was $180 with service included. If we'd opted for something other than the lobster we would have been much less. The three of us agreed this was, overall, a good kitchen, with good service. We would like to try other things. They have a sort of high end menu del dia for $30 a person which includes appetizer, entree, dessert, and either a half a bottle of wine or water. We will definitely give it a try before we leave

SIGNS OF THE WORLD

Me thinks one could use a slightly different branding

Tu pelo mi locura translates to:

Your Hair - My Madness

You are a pro at finding parking spaces. Glad you could all be together.
