Mostly Spain 2023 - STILL Haven't Been To Malmo...BUT We Have Lund!

The #3 clan put their collective heads together and came up with the plan that would get de-I and Wife to Sweden. You may remember that prior attempts were thwarted by taking a wrong train and ending up in some rural nowhere Denmark, and by my not knowing we needed a passport and being kept off a ferry.

This time #3 exited herself from all planning and put 3A on the job. He determined that the proximate city of Malmo was cursed. We would instead head for the next city of interest (I say this with tongue in cheek as according to 3A and #3 there is NOTHING of interest in Malmo). However, Lund is a veritable PARADISE of interesting things. It should be noted that 3A successfully saved us from going to 'Lund, Denmark' (which really does have nothing of interest), which is 5 hours in the wrong direction, when he noted that he'd been charged $440 for what should have been a $40 trip.

Seriously, Lund is quite old, dating its earliest foundations to the 10th century. It was a part of Denmark at the time (and remained part of Denmark until the 1670's when the nasty ole Swedes took it over). I wasn't able to find out a whole lot quickly online about where the medieval era wealth of the town came from, but there must have been a lot as they built a massive cathedral there (as you will see). Lund has a major university whose origins also go back to medieval times. So without further ado, let's get to Lund.

We took local transit to the Copenhagen train station. It was a nice piece of architecture in its own right.

We are SO EXCITED. We are finally going to Sweden

Look at the excitement on 3.2 and 3.1!

We arrive at Lund Station and head into the town.

The kind of hotel Wife and I Never stay in because we are too cheap

 On to Lund University!

Home to the Fighting Lions of Lund (with scroll in hand to smite the foe rhetorically) (Did I tell you Lund U has one of the highest ranked chess teams in all of Southwestern Sweden?)

Classic Swedish Architectural Renovation Scaffolding

If you know de-I, you know there's little I like better than a good...

...CATHEDRAL!

I am not quite sure what to make of this stained glass image. Seems a bit erotic. Definitely not from the medieval era. Snake/Serpent definitely not doing well.

Astronomical Clock. Is accurate for 200 years and then needs to be reset. Was started in 1430 I believe.

 SIGNS OF THE WORLD

 I know you're tired

 Rest here

You think everyone is out to get you...

...THEY ARE!

A large proportion of my friends were on either the chess team or the math team. It sounds like we'd like Lund University.

Every tourist site needs a "Rest here" sign.
